Day 9 - guest appearance

Today my friend Dave stepped in to take care of Day 9 for me. He pulled a classic kindness maneuver - he paid for the person behind him at Sheetz. You really can't go wrong with that one.

Thanks Dave!

Day 8

Today we bought lunch for a very good friend. She has seen us at our best and our worst, and vice versa. She's one of the most important people in our lives, and she's one of those "family that you choose not family that you're born into" kind of people. She'll always be family, and it was nice to spend a little time complaining to each other about life.

Day 7

Today I was extra courteous all day long -- holding every door open, letting every driver ahead of me in traffic, thanking everyone by name, and just trying to look out for other people

Day 6

Today I made a donation to Residential Services Inc. RSI provides living options and related supports to people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  RSI promotes quality of life by maximizing self-determination, development of independent living skills, community involvement, meaningful social roles, and socially responsible behavior.

Day 4

Today I gave some words of encouragement to a friend who is struggling. I've been in that position. Hell I am in that position more often than I'd like. Sometimes what you need is help, but sometimes what you really need is just someone to talk to. Someone to listen and understand and empathize. There are things that cannot be fixed. In those cases, sometimes just getting in a good rant or cry or rambling account of whatever your facing can help keep you going until things change.

Day 3

Today I had a follow-up appointment at the hospital for my daughter's ongoing GI issues. Not to delve too deeply into our struggles, but the doc referred us to another specialist, and as a result I needed to obtain a copy of some medical imagery to take to the other doctor. Since I was already at the hospital, I decided to get it done.

Wandering the halls of the gigantic hospital complex looking for the right medical records office, I saw one of those plexiglass boxes where you can drop money in to support programs at the Children's Hospital. How can you not help sick kids? I dropped some money in the box.

Day 2

Not feeling well - a cold is dragging me down. All I could muster today was to pre-load some vending machines in the break room at work. The next person who comes along can have a free drink or snack on me.

Day 1

My friend Eva is running in her first marathon next month. In the process, she's raising money for the American Association for Cancer Research. I am happy to support both of those things at the same time, and so impressed with anyone who takes on a full marathon. So today I made a small donation in support of her efforts. Go Eva!
